Max Middleton - Bali & Trobriand Islands
In 1959 Max visited Bali where he lived and painted for 4 months. At this time, Bali was undiscovered by tourism, and Max was fortunate to be invited to stay with the family of Prince Tjokoda Agung in Ubud. His paintings of Bali's lush rice fields, and local markets are vibrant in colour and infused with the glorious tropical sun.
Max's fascination with painting and drawing the people he met formed a major part of his travels in Bali. Unfortunately only a handful of the sensuous paintings from this trip and his further travels to the Trobriand Islands in 1968, are documented.
